PTE (PEARSON TEST OF ENGLISH) is an international English language test conducted entirely on computer to assess test takers ability to communicate effectively in English. It checks the listening, reading, writing and speaking ability of test takers who want to study in institutions where English is the principal language of instruction.
The test is developed by the Language Testing division of Pearson and is a recognized standard of ability or performance in language testing.
The test is conducted in three main parts and each part contains number of sections where each section is individually timed. The test lasts for approximately 3 hours.
Part 1: Speaking and writing
Part 2: Reading
Part 3: Listening
There are 20 different item types in the test which assess one or more language skill. All the answers are checked by computer without any human intervention. Besides communicative skills (reading, listening, writing and speaking), the test also assesses enabling skills (grammar, oral fluency, pronunciation, spelling, vocabulary and written discourse) of the test takers.
Pearson Test of English Academic is a computer-based academic English language test aimed at non-native English speakers who desire to study abroad. The tests are mainly of Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking.

The Speaking part of the exam is also done on the computer. The voice is recorded and sent for marking. The results are delivered within 5 days.
